Friday, May 22, 2020 - Summitt Labs has voluntarily recalled its watermelon-flavored Kore Organic CBD oil tincture after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) discovered potentially unsafe amounts of lead in a random sample.
Batch 730, Lot K018 of 30 ml bottles of Kore Organic Watermelon CBD Oil Tincture of 15mg 450x potency was found to contain lead levels at 0.5 ppm and recalled by the company in cooperation with Florida DACS and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Continued use of the product could lead to high lead exposure and cause acute lead poisoning.
This recall is interesting because the FDA does not currently regulate CBD. Current laws do not classify it as a dietary supplement or a legal drug. The department is in the process of drafting regulations that may change the classification in coming months, which many believe is much-needed due to false claims many companies have made about the health benefits and the actual CBD content of their products.
No complaints of acute lead poisoning have been reported by Summitt Labs to-date. Symptoms to be aware of include, but are not limited to, abdominal pain, nausea, muscle weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, a metallic taste in the mouth, poor appetite, weight loss, shock, and kidney damage.
Kore Organic watermelon CBD tincture can be identified by the Kore Organic logo and brown kraft paper packaging on 30 ml bottles. It was distributed to specialty stores and tradeshows nationwide.
