Tuesday, February 4, 2020 - Nopalina Flax Seed Fiber in powder and capsule form has been voluntarily recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. The products' manufacturer, Salud Natural Entrepreneur, Inc. of Waukegan, IL, issued the recall after it discovered that, senna leaves powder, one of the ingredients used in the formulation of its flax seed fiber, tested positive for three types of salmonella.
Salud Natural Entrepreneur, Inc. has stopped using senna leaves powder in its product after tests showed it contained Salmonella Gaminara, Salmonella Kentucky, and Salmonella Oranienburg.
The recalled products have been sold in the United States and Puerto Rico. Consumers who have purchased Nopalina Flax Seed Fiber capsules or powder are asked to stop using it immediately and to return it to the retailer where it was purchased for a full refund.
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, including nausea and vomiting, and fever. Most people develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
Some victims, particularly young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems can also develop significantly high fever, headaches, rashes, lethargy, and blood in the urine or stool. They can also develop endocarditis, arthritis, and infections in their arteries. In some cases, salmonella infection, called salmonellosis, can be fatal.
Symptoms of salmonella infection usually begin within 12 to 72 hours following ingestion and last approximately four to seven days. Most people recover without treatment.
To-date, Salud Natural Entrepreneur has not reported illnesses or deaths linked to its products.
