Therapeutic Nasal Sprays Recalled for Seizure Coma Risk

DDAVP, Desmopressin Acetate, STIMATE nasal spray recalled.

Monday, August 10, 2020 - Ferring Pharmaceuticals US has recalled DDAVP Nasal Spray 10 mcg/0.1mL, Desmopressin Acetate Nasal Spray 10 mcg/0.1mL, and STIMATE Nasal Spray 1.5 mg/mL after it was discovered the sprays can result in potentially dangerous amounts of desmopressin, a chemical that can lead to unusually low sodium levels, which may eventually lead to coma, seizure, or even death.

DDAVP Nasal Spray is an antidiuretic replacement therapy used to manage central cranial diabetes insipidus, as well as temporary excessive thirst or excessive urination following head trauma or pituitary gland surgery.

Desmopressin Acetate Nasal Spray is used as an antidiuretic replacement therapy used to manage central cranial diabetes insipidus, as well as temporary excessive thirst or excessive urination following head trauma or pituitary gland surgery.

Stimate Nasal Spray is used in patients with hemophilia type A who have Factor VIll greater than 5%.

Stimate Nasal Spray is used to treat patients with mild to moderate classic von Willebrand's disease (Type I) with Factor VIII levels greater than 5%.
